Recuperamos otra canción de Yeah Yeah Yeahs y su discazo It’s Blitz! (2009) y seguimos a la espera de que rompan su silencio con un nuevo álbum (que aquí, la única que puede mantener el silencio soy yo ).

Aquel que dijo más vale tener suerte que talento conocía la esencia de la vida. La gente tiene miedo a reconocer que gran parte de la vida depende de la suerte. Asusta pensar cuantas cosas se escapan a nuestro control. En un partido hay momentos en el que la pelota golpea el borde de la red y durante una fracción de segundo puede seguir hacia adelante o caer hacia atrás. Con un poco de suerte sigue hacia adelante y ganas o no lo haces y pierdes…

Pues esta banda es también fruto de la suerte. Sus componentes, la cantante Alison Mosshart (“VV”) y el guitarrista Jamie Hince (“Hotel”), se conocieron en un hotel. Mosshart escuchó a Hince practicar con la guitarra en la habitación que estaba debajo de la suya. Allí se cruzaron sus caminos. Y recientemente su música se cruzó en mi vida.

En el año 2003 un amigo me dijo: “Sandra, he descubierto al grupo de nuestras vidas”, y no sé si exageraba pero casi casi acierta. The Strokes son con sólo tres discos, el referente musical americano de la década. Sus dos primeros discos (“Is this it” y “Room on fire”) son una verdadera delicia sin desperdicio. Por desgracia, tuvieron un parón indefinido, pero se oye, se dice, se rumorea, que están barruntando volver a hacer algo….

The Strokes es uno de esos grupos, que tantos hay, formados por unos cuantos niños de papá que decidieron demostrar su quizá un poco frívola rebeldía por medio de la música, pero madre mía…..Dios bendiga a estos niños ricos tan creativos. Y esta canción “You only live once” pertenece a su tercer disco, “First impressions of Earth”, quizá el más flojito de los suyos, al menos a mi humilde parecer, pero sólo flojo por las dos joyitas que produjeron antes. En cualquier caso, en este disco, está esta canción, la que más me gusta de ellos, y no teneis nada más que escucharla para saber por qué. Quien no la haya oído nunca (si es que hay alguien), alucinará de todas las maneras posibles, y quien lo haya hecho la disfrutará más que antes, por que tiene ese no sé qué de esas canciones que cuanto más las escuchas, más te gustan…

Eso mismo nos recuerdan los suecos de The Hives (tras el relax de las voces femeninas, toca un poco de garage rock). Aunque ellos cuentan que odian decirlo (no sé yo…). Este Hate To Say I Told You So está dentro del álbum Veni Vidi Vicious (2000).

Así que nada mejor para remediarlo que con este Seven Nation Army. Sacado de su disco más exitoso, Elephant (2003), es una vuelta al mejor garage rock de los 60. Hoy, el día de los derechos humanos, toca luchar como un único ejército de las siete naciones contra todas las injusticias que nos siguen rodeando.

Por cierto, que este videoclip me ha recordado un poco al de The Ting Tings.
