Eso sí, seguro que muchos el primer día de trabajo os habréis sentido como Dave Grohl en este videoclip al más puro estilo “Un día de furia“. Un videoclip en el que intervienen todos los miembros de la banda (que se lo pasan pipa últimamente grabando).

Wasting Light es el séptimo y, por ahora, último álbum de la banda y lo defienden de muerte en todos los planos: el musical, el artístico y por supuesto, el directo (muchos rezamos para que los trajeran al BBK Live, pero este año no se escucharon nuestras súplicas).

Pero hay un grupo que me despierta especial interés: The Twilight Singers. La banda de Greg Dulli lleva sin sacar disco desde 2006, pero tiene temazos como esta declaración de amor. Es una versión de la canción de Massive Attack. En esta cover la voz tan personal la pone Mark Lanegan. Dado que es una banda tan voluble (los músicos cambian disco a disco y gira a gira a excepción de Dulli), no sé si mañana podré escuchar esta canción. Por si acaso, la dejo aquí .

Sus directos son tan buenos (o mejores) que la escucha calmada de su disco con el volumen bien alto. Letras hilvanadas a un sonido potente (sobre todo con sus crescendo, una marca ya de la casa).

“Maldita Dulzura” ha sido el single seleccionado para arrancar, pero yo me quedo con esta canción, que hoy ha sonado una y otra vez en mi ordenador (será porque he tenido un día raro de los que hablan…). Empieza despacito, con el piano, pero gana en intensidad hasta un final apoteósico donde me imagino a Pucho dando saltos como un loco. Quien iba a decir, que sin carbón, no hay reyes magos.

La letra es sublime. Habla de lo duro que es siempre el primer golpe que nos damos (lo saco del contexto del amorío y lo aplico de forma genérica en todos los planos de nuestra vida). Y de cómo luego nos endurecemos con los siguientes. Parece positivo y negativo a la vez (una contradicción en sí mismo). Por un lado, sería inmanejable que todo nos impactara fuerte, pero por otro hay un peligro de “anestesiarnos” ante tantas y tantas cosas. Las piedras no tienen sentimientos… o eso creemos .

Como curiosidad, deciros que tanto la versión de Rod Stewart como la de Sheryl Crow omiten deliberadamente las tres últimas líneas del estribillo de la letra original:
