    • ]]>     Me quedan pocos días para coger las merecidas vacaciones, así que ando con la cabeza en otros sitios (y con un rendimiento cerebral del 30%). Es por eso que no dejo de escuchar esta semana música tranquila. El trip-hop me relaja y si es con la voz de Liesje Sadonius, mejor que mejor.

    The Magnificent Tree fue una auténtica mina de oro de éxitos. Me encanta la solemnidad con la que arranca esta canción y aún más la temática: la fragilidad de las relaciones y lo fácil que es a veces confundir aprecio con aprovechamiento. Como dice una amiga: “Me llaman porque me tienen gratis, no porque me quieren a cualquier precio“.

    Por cierto, Julio será mi mes maratón de música con el BBK Live y el concierto de Arcade Fire. Tocará hacer flexiones ;-) .

    • ]]>     Hoy toca silencio para poner los dientes largos a muchos y muchas. Porque mañana, sobre esta hora más o menos, es muy probable que esté disfrutando de esta canción en vivo y en directo. Tengo ya mono de concierto (hace mucho que no voy a uno), aunque probablemente en Julio me empache con el BBK Live y Arcade Fire en dos semanas.

    ¡Que noooo! La música nunca empacha :-) . Y menos cuando es trip-hop, como es el caso de Tricky (que supongo habrá sufrido innumerables bromas con el monstruo de las galletas ;-) ). Esto me ha traído a la mente a Portishead (ojalá algún día también puede disfrutar de su directo).

    • ]]>     Con la alegría en el cuerpo de pensar que este año por fin voy a disfrutar de Coldplay en directo (han confirmado su participación en el BBK Live en julio), hoy traigo a unos belgas que ya han pasado por este rincón con su famoso Mad About You y que repiten con su no menos conocido Eden (sobretodo por la versión que hizo Sarah Brightman del mismo).

    Un single que formó parte del álbum Blue Wonder Power Milk (1998) pero que fue re-editado en el año 2003 en su disco en directo Sit Down And Listen To. Un curioso directo, porque se grabó con una orquesta pero sin público. Me quedo por tanto con esta segunda versión mucho más reposada (dentro de la paz que ya transmite de por si el tema). Me temo que necesitaré una buena dosis de esto para enfrentarme a la semana que mañana irremediablemente entrará a por todas…

    • ]]>     Los padres del trip-hop vuelven a la carga con nuevo disco recién salidito del horno: Heligoland (Febrero de 2010). No se sabe si el nombre viene de la contracción de Hell Ego Land o del archipiélago alemán. El caso es que lo estrenan con esta canción en boca de la norteamericana Hope Sandoval. Y otras grandes colaboraciones como la del guitarrista de Portishead, Adrian Utley. El arranque me recuerda un poco al Everything In Its Right Place de Radiohead.

    Cuatro años de silencio han pasado desde su anterior álbum y mucho más desde su exitazo Tear Drop. Bienvenidos sean de nuevo. Les echábamos de menos.

    • ]]>     lamb¡Tengo esto medio abandonado! ¿Es que nadie ha limpiado el polvo en mi ausencia? He estado tentada a volver con aquello de que Sevilla tiene un color especial (¡qué ciudad más preciosa!). Pero como el estilo musical no es muy de mi cuerda, me voy a decantar por esta canción de Lamb, un dúo electrónico inglés. Sí, de nuevo el trip-hop a escena, pero es que después de tanto trajín para arriba y para abajo, al final del día necesito desestresarme con este tipo de melodías. La voz de Lou Rhodes me transporta a otra dimensión, sin ruidos, sin prisas, sin posibilidad de defraudar a nadie (empezando por una misma).

    Lo podemos encontrar en su álbum What Sound del 2001. He tenido serias dudas entre decantarme por Gabriel o por su otro éxito más conocido: Gorecki. También tiene una remezcla de Nellee Hooper.

    • ]]>     felt mountainLunes duro, como casi todos. Así que hoy me decanto por un silencio relajante. O más que relajante, inquietante: parece la banda sonora ideal de una película de ovnis. Esta canción electrónica es obra del dúo inglés Goldfrapp. Fue el primer single de su primer álbum (Felt Mountain, 2000). Alison Goldfrapp y Will Gregory se juntaron en 1999 para hacer trip-hop, al más puro estilo Portishead.

    Como nota cinematográfica, decir que apareció en la película que hizo Guy Ritchie a, hasta ese momento, su mujer Madonna: Barridos por la marea. Uno de los silbidos más conocidos del mundo musical.

    • ]]>     innerSe acabaron las vacaciones. Sí, muchos estaréis pensando que ya era hora… Pero debo decir que me han servido para recuperar mi tempo. Mucho relax y volver a plantearme las cosas con calma (veremos cuánto me dura cuando volvamos a poner la quinta marcha…). Y el trip-hop refleja a la perfección mi estado actual.

    Que el nombre de este artista no os lleve a equivocación: Bergman en realidad es Xabier Soler, un músico catalán que cultiva ritmos poco comunes en estos lares: la electrónica y el trip-hop. Además, ese nombre no viene del conocido director de cine, ni siquiera de la actriz. Se trata más bien de un guiño a un cómic de Milo Manara. En su segundo disco, Inner (2000), colaboró con la Orquesta Sinfónica de Praga y con tres voces femeninas: Xesca Fort, Uma Ursula Pietch y Andrea Thiele. Éste Enigmas In Your Hand lo interpreta Xesca y fue la banda sonora de un anuncio de Telefónica. Música interior, cargada de sentimiento.

    • ]]>     fragments of freedomVa llegando a su fin el puente de Semana Santa con voces femeninas y mucha calma. Esta vez es la de Skye Edwards, la ex-vocalista de esta conocida banda inglesa. Una pena que en 2003 Skye dejase el grupo. Fue reemplazada por Daisy Martey (la cual sufrió bastantes críticas) y ella ha hecho sus pinitos en solitario (sacó el disco Mind How You Go en 2006). Parece que últimamente el trip-hop se está apoderando de este blog.

    Y como reza el título de la canción, tomémonos la vida con calma, que Roma no fue hecha en un día ;-) . La podéis encontrar en su tercer álbum Fragments of Freedom (1999). El vídeo irradia optimismo:

    • ]]>     homogenicA esta artista islandesa se le pueden poner muchos apellidos, pero seguramente el que mejor la defina es el de la originalidad. Nunca deja indiferente a nadie: si no es por su música, es por sus apariciones en el mundo del cine o su cuidado vestuario. Nacida en Reykjavík y con rasgos esquimales, ha cultivado casi todos los géneros musicales: electrónica, trip-hop, folk, pop, clásica, …

    A mí personalmente me encanta este Bachelorette perteneciente a su tercer álbum Homogenic (1997). Se trata de una historia en sí misma que es la continuación de las canciones “Isobel” y “Human Behaviour”.

    He seleccionado el videoclip original de la canción que comienza con Isobel encontrando un libro blanco en su jardín en el que se irá escribiendo su historia. Es un ejemplo estupendo para contar lo que es la recursividad.

    También os recomiendo la actuación de Björk en el MTV’s Fashion Rocks! donde, como no, tiene un vestuario único y pone banda sonora al desfile del diseñador Alexander McQueen y esta otra versión acompañada de violines.

    • ]]>     dummyVuelven a este rinconcito de silencio los Portishead, pero es que publicaría cada una de sus canciones… Además ésta es una que me marca. Habla de caminos que seguimos y que dejamos, caminos emocionales. Al igual que Glory Box, esta perla apareció en su disco debut Dummy, en 1994.

    Es una banda que ha puesto ya su huella en el trip-hop, volviéndose en un imprescindible del género. Y qué decir de la voz de Beth Gibbons…

    La versión de este videoclip es de un directo que hicieron en Nueva York junto a la Orquesta Filarmónica de NY. El acompañamiento de violines pone aún más la piel de gallina.
