The xx – Angels

Septiembre tiene el mismo estigma que los lunes: normalmente se asimila con la vuelta al trabajo y los madrugones. Pero para los amantes de la música también es el mes en el que muchos grupos estrenan sus novedades. Así que vamos a intentar compensar nuestro pesar de la vuelta a la rutina con buena y nueva música.

Empecemos con una joya que llevábamos desde 2009 esperando. Ese año debutó este trío londinense dejándonos con la boca abierta. Así que el 10 de septiembre veremos qué nuevo nos depara, con las expectativas por las nubes. El disco ya se ha filtrado por las redes (podéis intentar escucharlo por aquí) y a mí no me han defraudado. Quizás un poco más tranquilos que en el álbum anterior (echamos en falta alguna canción con caña), pero eso se suple con los miles de remixes que saldrán en torno a sus canciones.

De hecho, ese es el caso de Angels. Una canción que te relaja pero que si la quieres a mayor velocidad, puedes disfrutar de sus excelentes remixes que ya pululan por Internet.

Yo os dejo con su acústico improvisado en una habitación de hotel en Tokyo. Solo se me ocurre un adjetivo: brutal.

The Maccabees – Pelican

Seguimos con el repaso del Bilbao BBK Live 2012. En esta ocasión les toca a los ingleses de Brighton, The Maccabees, que para decidir el nombre de su grupo, abrieron la Biblia y seleccionaron una palabra al azar. Como veis, todo originalidad. A esto se le suma un buen directo y canciones pegadizas, como este Pelican y su forma de repetir estrofas, primer single de su último trabajo (Given to the Wild, 2012).

Como dice la canción, algo está claro: todos nos hacemos mayores, así que toca subir el volumen de esta melodía y cantarla a grito pelado:

Snow Patrol – New York

Seguimos con el repaso de canciones que probablemente escuchemos la semana que viene en directo en el BBK Live. En esta ocasión le toca el turno a Snow Patrol, que espero que nos regale viejas joyas de anteriores álbumes y ésta de su último disco, Fallen Empires (2011).

Además, siendo como es julio, algunas siempre nos ponemos a recordar ese viaje que nos pegamos a la ciudad de los rascacielos. Y lo que más me gusta de Nueva York es que puedes ir con una maceta en la cabeza y nadie te mirará. De hecho, el propio grupo Snow Patrol se fue a Times Square a cantar esta melodía y pasaron totalmente desapercibidos entre la masa :-D.

Shearwater – You As You Were

Una de las razones de que sea usuaria asidua de la plataforma web last.fm es que, en base a la música que escucho, me hace recomendaciones. Y estas suelen ser bastante acertadas.

Así fue como descubrí a Shearwater no hace mucho. Me sorprendió su música y que tuvieran tantos discos en el mercado. Tras una sesión de spotify, me quedo con su último álbum (Animal Joy, 2012) y esta canción que me llena de energía (algo de lo que últimamente ando necesitada ;-)).

Comienza con ese piano repiqueteando, para subir el ritmo in crescendo y convertirse en una de esas canciones que no tiene estribillo. ¿O será la melodía completa un estribillo puro?

The Shins – Simple Song

Fin de semana lluvioso. No sé a vosotros, pero a mí el tiempo me condicionaba bastante el humor. Fijaos que uso un tiempo verbal pasado, porque acabo de encontrar el antídoto para la lluvia: una personita pequeña que ahora se pasea por mi vida y que con su sonrisa despeja todas las nubes y hace que salga el mejor de los arco-iris. Así que hoy toca canción optimista y que nos habla de la importancia de las cosas simples en nuestra vida.

Además esta melodía me recuerda a la banda sonora de CSI, no me preguntéis por qué. La cuestión es que ha sido el primer single del último disco de esta banda norteamericana. Os dejo con un vídeo estático, porque el videoclip oficial es muy gracioso pero la narración interfiere demasiado en la escucha de la canción:
