Alexi MurdochHay días en los que el cielo se pone naranja y desearías no despertar. Hay días en los que una llamada de teléfono perturba tus sueños y de paso, tu vida. Hay días en que largos caminos se interrumpen.

Se trata de una canción larga. De hecho Alexi tuvo que producirse él mismo el EP que la contiene (Four Songs, 2002) dado que al llevarla a una discográfica, el responsable se puso a cronometrar la duración del estribillo. Ha formado parte de múltiples bandas sonoras: The OC, House, Prison Break, Dirty Sexy Money, …

La semana de… Queen – Under Pressure

Hot SpaceLos lunes toca volver a la rutina y la presión que ejerce sobre nosotros nuestro trabajo.

En esta ocasión nos vamos hasta 1982 y el disco Hot Space para recuperar una canción que pone de manifiesto aquello de que el estrés inunda nuestras calles. Pero algunos trabajamos mejor bajo presión (que se lo digan a los integrantes de la estación espacial internacional, que suelen escuchar este tema de Queen…). Esta vez la recomendación viene de la mano de Halston y Manuel.

Manuel:

Sin ningún genero de duda, mi canción preferida de Queen es «Under pressure». De los muchos símbolos musicales que dejó este grupo, creo que el sampling inicial de bajo es de lo mejor de la reina. También contribuye la presencia de Bowie, que aunque no es santo de mi devoción, da la impresión que en la grabación de esta canción, había magia y genialidad brotando de cada nota. Además en conjunto me parece una canción arriesgada, nada convencional y hermosa (cualidades nada ajenas a casi ninguna canción de Queen).

Destaco así mismo una versión en directo de David Bowie con Annie Lennox en un homenaje a Mercury. Dos gigantes engranados en una canción que les quedaba como un guante. ¡Para morirse!

Halston:

A mí me agradaría que publicaran la canción de UNDER PRESSURE con Freddie Mercury y David Bowie. Esta canción la escuché en la época que era estudiante en la universidad y me ayudaba a aguantar las noches de desvelo.

Antonio Vega – Se Dejaba Llevar

no-me-ire-mananaSe dejaba llevar… y hoy se fue. Otro sillón de los dioses de la música ocupado.

Poco más me sale hoy con la triste noticia de la muerte de un genio. Con tan sólo 51 años, una neumonía pudo más que él. Atrás quedará todo su arte: solo o acompañado. Humor negro que tiene la vida, esta canción estaba en el disco No me Iré Mañana (1992).

Ben Harper – Diamonds On The Inside

diamonds-on-the-insideAún no se había pasado el gran Ben Harper por este blog. Tenía varias propuestas para lanzarlo al estreno (una versión muy buena de The Verve, Burn One Down, …). Pero al final me he decantado por su éxito más conocido: Diamonds on the Inside, segundo single del disco de mismo nombre (2003). Ben es un artista que le imprime un sentimiento enorme a todas sus melodías. Si a esto le sumas que sus letras son diamantes en bruto… Por ejemplo, de ésta me quedo con: «Make sure the fortune, that you seek, is the fortune that you need.» o «So tell me why, the first to ask, is the last to give, every time.».

Por cierto, habrá que estar a la escucha puesto que el 5 de este mes ha salido su nuevo álbum: «White Lies For Dark Times«, donde le acompaña su nueva banda Relentless7, formada en 2008.

Aqualung – Brighter Than Sunshine

still-lifeVolvemos a la carga tras el receso en las islas afortunadas y lo hacemos de nuevo con Aqualung. Ya no os puedo contar mucho más de este artistazo. Así que casi mejor destripamos la canción: formó parte del álbum Still Life (2003) y también de la banda sonora de la película Muy parecido al amor y por supuesto, de la serie reina de las canciones 😉

Hoy, el día está lluvioso por el norte y eso nos hace valorar aún más la luz del sol, así que todo lo que sea más brillante que ella, tiene que ser un gran tesoro. La frase con la que me quedo: I didn’t have the strength to fight. A buen entendedor, pocas palabras bastan.
