Vetusta Morla – Los Días Raros

Discazo. Aún no había hablado del segundo álbum de Vetusta Morla (Mapas, 2001), pero no puedo poner más adjetivos. Es una de las actuaciones del BBK Live que espero con más ganas (aunque parece que el morbo correrá a cargo de nuestra ínclita Amy Winehouse… que no sé yo si llegará…).

Sus directos son tan buenos (o mejores) que la escucha calmada de su disco con el volumen bien alto. Letras hilvanadas a un sonido potente (sobre todo con sus crescendo, una marca ya de la casa).

«Maldita Dulzura» ha sido el single seleccionado para arrancar, pero yo me quedo con esta canción, que hoy ha sonado una y otra vez en mi ordenador (será porque he tenido un día raro de los que hablan…). Empieza despacito, con el piano, pero gana en intensidad hasta un final apoteósico donde me imagino a Pucho dando saltos como un loco. Quien iba a decir, que sin carbón, no hay reyes magos.

Rod Stewart – First Cut Is The Deepest

Hoy Silencio se pone la gorra de las versiones con un clasicazo de Cat Stevens. He estado un buen rato valorando qué cover seleccionar (si la de Rod o la de Sheryl Crow, que en acústico es tremenda también). Pero al final me he decantado por la voz rasgada del inglés, para que así estrene el casillero en este blog.

La letra es sublime. Habla de lo duro que es siempre el primer golpe que nos damos (lo saco del contexto del amorío y lo aplico de forma genérica en todos los planos de nuestra vida). Y de cómo luego nos endurecemos con los siguientes. Parece positivo y negativo a la vez (una contradicción en sí mismo). Por un lado, sería inmanejable que todo nos impactara fuerte, pero por otro hay un peligro de «anestesiarnos» ante tantas y tantas cosas. Las piedras no tienen sentimientos… o eso creemos ;-).

Como curiosidad, deciros que tanto la versión de Rod Stewart como la de Sheryl Crow omiten deliberadamente las tres últimas líneas del estribillo de la letra original:

Two Door Cinema Club – What You Know

Andamos por estos lares (al sur de Islandia, como diría Julen) revolucionados con el BBK Live: un festival que jamás se parece al año anterior. Un festival del que no sabes qué esperar. Un festival al que le hacen la cama los propios artistas a la organización publicando antes en sus facebooks o webs que vienen. Un festival que lo mismo se pone un año metalero y al siguiente parece el «Rock in Bilbo«. Que no es que yo me esté quejando, porque este año pinta bonito para mis gustos musicales: Coldplay, Jack Johnson, The Chemical Brothers, Crystal Castles, … hasta será interesante ver a la Amy «Casa del Vino» actuar ;-). Pero es que comprarse el abono es como jugar a la lotería: te puede tocar o no.

Como aún sigue abierta la publicación de grupos, yo hago una petición desde este humilde rinconcito… por si fuera escuchado ;-): un grupazo que tiene que animar al público de lo lindo, Two Door Cinema Club. Estos chavalillos ya se pasaron por aquí con su animado «Something Good Can Work«. Y aún lo es más este «What You Know», también parte de su álbum debut.

Muse – Uprising

MuseSeguro que hoy nadie os lo ha comentado… ¿A que no os habíais dado cuenta de que hemos cambiado de año? ;-).

Y, por tanto, no me resisto a hacer la manida lista de los grupos que han conquistado mi 2010. Grandes descubrimientos que no han dejado de sonar en mi reproductor: The Temper Trap, The XX, Florence + The Machine, Arcade Fire, …

Por el lado de la tecnología, decir que Spotify ya está más que integrado en mi forma de concebir la música. Y la lista de Silencio en Spotify me chiva que hay más de 18 horas de música repartidas en 267 canciones y 401 suscriptores.

Parece que este 2011 también se presenta movidito con novedades de los grandes: Coldplay, U2, … hasta la mismísima Lady Gaga ;-). Pero también el grupo que nos ocupa, que ya arrasó con su The Resistance en 2009 y prevee ponerse manos a la obra con nuevo álbum.

Un golpe de energía y reivindicación para empezar el año :-).

Kings Of Leon – Radioactive

Cómo viene el mes de diciembre… Por un lado tenemos a los grandes grupos sacando singles navideños para recordar que siguen ahí (es el caso de Coldplay y The Killers).

Por otro lado, en Reino Unido se están juntado para hacer promoción de este blog. ¡Ups! Quería decir del silencio… Y es que anualmente es muy popular la disputa por copar el número 1 navideño (si habéis visto la película Love Actually, sabréis de lo que hablo). El año pasado, un grupo de usuarios de facebook consiguió que ese puesto recayera en Rage Against The Machine y no en la típica melodía pastelona. Pues bien, este año se han puesto como meta el tema en silencio que John Cage grabó en 1952. La canción se llama 4’33, que es exactamente lo que dura. Tiempo durante el que podemos escuchar únicamente el sonido del estudio.

Eso sí, yo prefiero los silencios más caseros, así que casi que hoy os dejo con algo de sonido sureño: el nuevo disco de Kings Of Leon (Come Around Sundown) y su primer single radiactivo. Debo decir con este disco que en las primeras escuchas sentí un poco de decepción. Estaba claro que habían dejado el listón muy alto con su anterior trabajo… Sin embargo, parece que según lo voy procesando, me voy reconciliando con él. Por cierto, no os podéis perder la versión que hace Cee Lo (sí, el de Fuck You, con perdón ;-)).
