Nina Simone – Sinnerman

nina simone pastel bluesSi os nombro a Eunice Kathleen Waymon igual os quedéis igual. ¿Pero y si os digo Nina Simone? Esta compositora norteamericana es todo un símbolo en el mundo del jazz y el soul.

¿Y qué decir de Sinnerman? Tiene ya sus añitos pero es una melodía atemporal. Se trata de una canción espiritual estadounidense interpretada por muchos artistas y que se utilizaba para ayudar a las personas a confesar sus pecados. La primera revisión que hizo Nina data de 1965, cuando fue incluida como pista de diez minutos en el disco Pastel Blues. En 1968 acompañó a la película El secreto de Thomas Crown. En 1999 repitió en el remake del filme con Pierce Brosnan y Rene Russo. También aparece en Oceans 12, Scrubs, Entourage, …

The Wannadies – You and Me Song [Recomendación]

the wannadiesBuenísima la recomendación que me pasa Ángel esta semana, para animar un poco este blog (que últimamente parece que todo está impregnado de pesimismo). Os dejo con él y la banda sueca The Wannadies:

Aquí va una recomendación de un grupo un poco «extraño». Uno de esos que tienen una canción que rápidamente se hace famosa y, por qué no decirlo, que es bastante buena para lo que hay por el mundo musical, con influencias de The Clash o los Pixies. Una canción simplona pero muy efectiva y positiva 🙂 para cantar muy alto.

Yo conocí esta melodía gracias a la fantástica banda sonora de la película Romeo y Julieta (la versión moderna de Claire Danes y Leonardo Di Caprio).

Skunk Anansie – Secretly

Skunk AnansieFeliz día anti-san valentín. Un momento que ni pintado para esta canción de Skunk Anansie, un grupo inglés que se disolvió en 2001. Fue el segundo single de su álbum Post Orgasmic Chill (1999). La voz de Deborah Dyer (también conocida como Skin) es cuanto menos, inquietante. Ya publiqué hace un tiempo una de sus canciones en solitario: Faithfullness. Le confiere a esta balada una crudeza y desesperación extrañas.

Para entender el vídeo hay que ponerse en antecedentes de que esta melodía fue parte de la banda sonora de la película Crueles Intenciones (la versión moderna de la novela Las amistades peligrosas).

Howie DayLa canción de hoy es especial porque viene marcada por el día. Como dice la melodía incluso los mejores caen a veces, incluso las estrellas se niegan a brillar. Ha pasado ya un año y me niego a recordarte porque eso es para los que han olvidado.

Volviendo al plano musical, esta balada es obra de Howard Kern Day, un cantautor americano conocido por su do it yourself: en el escenario él solito monta el espectáculo con samplers y pedales de efectos. En el negocio también se valió para autofinanciarse y sacar al mercado su primer disco, Australia (2000). Collide pertenece a su segundo álbum Stop All the World Now (2004) y ha aparecido en numerosas series: Scrubs, Urgencias, Bones, Caso Abierto, Smallville, Lost, Anatomía de Grey, …

Lisa Mitchell – Neopolitan Dreams

Lisa MitchellEscuchando esta canción he tenido uno de esos déjà vus musicales: pensaba que se trataba de la voz de Lourdes Hernández (Russian Red) y no era así.

La interprete es Lisa Mitchell, una cantante australiana salida de Australian Idol (¿por qué en otros países aparecen joyas como ésta o Leona Lewis y del formato español nada potable? ahí dejo la pregunta). Esta Neopolitan Dreams ha sido utilizada en el anuncio de navidad de El Corte Inglés en España, pero en otros países también ha sido la banda sonora ideal para acompañar productos tan dispares como un detergente en Reino Unido o una compañía telefónica en Australia.
